Here are a number of useful KML resources for Google Earth with data and supplemental layers. Many have been reported and shared by users in the Google Earth Help Forum or Google Earth Community (GEC) Forum. KML is a file format used to display geographic data in an Earth browser such as Google Earth. KML uses a tag-based structure with nested elements and attributes and is based on the XML standard. All tags are case-sensitive and must appear exactly as they are listed in the KML Reference. The Reference indicates which tags are optional. While we're working to expand KML support, this guide outlines the current import limits. Only KML and KMZ files are supported at this time. Unzipped KML and KMZ files can be up to 1GB. A single import is limited to 10,000 features. Projects are limited to 20,000 features total. The maximum number of vertices allowed in a single import is 250,000. Loading a KML or KMZ file via NetworkLink in Google Earth for web requires that the file be publicly accessible on the internet, AND it requires that the host server send appropriate CORS headers with the file, allowing the Earth client code to load the file. The "Export to KML/KMZ" dialog you are showing is for exporting from MyMaps, and if you select "keep data up to date ", it will give you a KML file containing a NetworkLink to the KML output of your MyMap. If you view that KML file in another KML viewer such as Google Earth, any edits you make in the MyMap will show up in Google Earth. To open local KML files in Google Earth: On your computer, open Google Earth. At the top left, click New Open local KML file. Select the KML file you want to open. After you select the file you want to open, it'll automatically save to your local KML files. Tips: You can open local KML files in Google Earth even if you're not signed in. Highlights of KML 2.1. Regions-Regions provide culling and level-of-detail behavior that allow you to fine-tune how your data is presented in Google Earth. When used

with NetworkLinks, Regions enable streaming of very large datasets, with "smart" loading of data at multiple levels of resolution (see the section on Super-Overlays).You can also simulate Google Earth's layers using Regions. Open the KML_Network_Link.kml dataset in Google Earth. When opening the network link, it will display the grid TILE_Overview.kmz dataset as we had set the region to 256 pixels. Now if you zoom into a tile or double-click on a tile in the Places pane, it will zoom in and show more detail. The tile below is showing the detail for L27. The KMZ only contains a single Network Link that points to the first level KML. This KML contains 1 Ground Overlay and 4 Network Links : The process is repeated for every level. At the last level, the KML only contain 1 Ground Overlay and no Network Link. This kind of file can be used in Google Earth EC. Even if the file is very large (e.g. 200 Click on the link below to try using legacy mode." If you see this message, you should change the structure of your KML/KMZ content to ensure full compatibility with future versions of Google earth. See this article for more information, including details on how to appropriately restructure your KMZ content.
